Winnie the Dachshund – visit to address her behaviour 4 days prior to Natalie giving birth to a baby girl.
Thank you so much for your time yesterday.
We’ve seen a huge change in Winnie’s behaviour already, which is fantastic. After you left she stayed calm and in her bed for the entire time that Kevin was with us - no barking, spinning or growling!!! And she’s been good as gold today - we only have to point and she goes straight to her bed.
We picked up Natures menu food and treats last night and she definitely prefers it to the kibble!! 🙂
Sue revolutionised our mornings!
We took Belle the Wonderdog, a Romanian street dog rescue as a puppy. We didn't know what we were letting ourselves in for and Belle soon presented with issues that we were ill equipped to handle as first time dog owners with two kids.
She would wake us up with loud barking at 5 am, she would bark and snap at passing children, she started snapping at our kids and displaying dominant behaviour in the home, her recall was non existent and before long we wondered how we were going to cope- it wasn't fun.
Enter stage left Sue the wonder dog trainer!
After her first home visit, she gave us some strategies to deal with all of the issues that we presented - she revolutionised dad’s mornings by helping with the morning barking! And Sue was great at working with each member of the family to help them to gain the confidence to work with Belle who, 9 months on is settling in wonderfully. Sue has been available on the phone and by text many times since, we wouldn't have been able to do this without her. Sue comes highly recommended. Update:
Belle is a Wonderdog, a proper integrated part of the family.
The kids are in love, she's had a positive impact on all of our health and she gets us all out together as a family on a Sunday, which has had a positive impact on us as a family.
She is far better behaved although her recall can still go to pot when another dog comes on the scene, if you don't get and keep her attention in a timely fashion!
What can I say? You've worked wonders!
We really enjoyed our time with you and have taken your advice very much to heart.
Even in such a short time the difference in Tuppence (Great Dane) is really rewarding. Of course all three of us are still learning but so far so good.
Thanks again for super advice.
Hi Sue, Just wanted to thank you for your help and guidance yesterday, I am excited to tell you that I took Bella for her two walks today, once this morning and then this evening, both times we met other dogs. I made her sit, with me between her and the other dog as it passed and she did not make a sound. I was so pleased with her. Long way to go yet but good progress I thought (and she didn't bark at the horses either) Bella is nervous of other dogs and wanted to run whenever she saw them, even when on lead. Once again many thanks and I will see you next week.
Hi Sue, Just wanted to drop you a line to say how much Millie & I enjoyed today on our one 2 one. It has given me a lot more confidence in handling her and its nice to know that Millie is understanding and enjoying her new found ability and just to see that she 'wants' to do the obstacles' set in front of her. We both have GREAT fun and LOVE it !!! You are a great instructor. Millie is a beautiful Rottweiler
Hi Sue, Domino is doing well, he can do the whole food routine without the lead on. He is hardly trying to mark when out walking and is less reactive with cats when out on the lead. He loves the Kong (although I had to use the (slip) lead to get it back from him at first) His coat looks great and one weird thing he is pooing less!! We are waiting for our Natures Menu delivery today. He seems to have accepted no upstairs and is barely trying to get on the sofas, as a result he is barking less. I had gas fitters in the other day and used the training lead, which worked well (although he still barked a lot initially). He is still quite reactive to certain dogs when out, although probably less dogs, but hopefully persistence will be the answer! Domino is a crossbreed whose aggressive behaviour to people and dogs needed prompt attention. Thank you for all your help.
Your visit “was very interesting and extremely helpful the other day and I can see the benefits already!” Bailey is a Labrador that has recovered from cancer and needs to draw confidence from her owner. She was scared of walking on hard floors indoors, but now is able to walk calmly around the house. Out on the walk she is more responsive to Jo and their relationship is much stronger.
“Your visit was very useful and we are already seeing significant improvements in Pip’s behaviour.” Pip is a cockerpoo with attitude! He was aggressive to any dog prior to my visit, but with careful introductions he was able to ignore some dogs and walk along quietly with other dogs and owners when out in the local park.
Henry is a Romanian street dog with a history of aggression to people and dogs. He is responding well to his new owner and is much calmer since my visit. “The help you have given myself for Henry is worth twice amount.”
Hi Sue, Noodle and Branston are doing really well since your visit! Both wait in their beds… most of the time… But best of all, Sam and I have had 2 uninterrupted night’s sleep! The new bedtime routine get them settled in their beds downstairs, then we go to bed. Noodle has banged at the door less each night and we’ve been sleeping again. Doesn’t seem too distressed or anxious in the mornings. And the new bed & wait routine when we go out means we haven’t had incessant barking either. Thanks so much - will report back in another week or two!

Just a special thank you for Saturday’s lesson, which I enjoyed even more than normal, a lovely challenge!
Just wanted to say a big thank you for the class. We will continue to practice, hopefully so it will become second nature to Mia. It was a fantastic feeling when she came back today! Trevor was really pleased she came back and did so well too. It was a brilliant morning, one I shall definitely remember. We will try very hard to continue to build and improve on what we have achieved so far.
Thank you so much!
Dizzy has now been coming to classes for six months and we are having a great time!
We are very glad that we have come along (to training classes) and feel that, under your expert eye, Oscar has made brilliant progress. Everyone (at class) is lovely and we think you’re super!
Hi Sue, Just thought I would let you know that we went for a walk today, two dogs and people quite close that had Benji's attention and he came back all three times that I did the recall! He was a completely different dog! Amazing! Thank you for training "me" so well, a vast improvement - even if my other half found my high pitch squealing extremely entertaining! Regards
I've been meaning to say for a while now that I found the recall session excellent. I wasn't too sure at first having come up through the Academy that I/we would find it beneficial as we’d already
learnt so much. However, I’ve certainly found a difference in Leo’s response to recall. It’s always been a problem getting him to respond to come in from the garden but I’m still marvelling on the fact I call him and he comes – not always; depending on some distractions, but nevertheless a massive improvement. Thanks.
Many thanks for your help with Poppy, we can see a considerable improvement in her general obedience and tolerance of other dogs.
Just like to say “thank you” for the past 6 weeks; I have really enjoyed the classes. Thanks also for making us feel so welcome when attending your classes on Saturdays.
I do think that Barney is more relaxed around other dogs and at the of today’s class Net had a little sniff of him as she walked past and he really didn’t appear to be bothered, which was the main reason for getting in touch with the Essex Dog Academy
I would highly recommend Essex Dog Academy for anyone needing help training their dog. They deal with a range of problems and even managed to get my 3 year old golden retriever coming back to me! (which is a massive achievement). I attend Sue’s class every Saturday morning, which is not only fun for the handlers and dogs; we both, dog and handler, learn helpful tips so that we can have a better bond. I definitely have more control over my dog since attending the Essex Dog Academy classes. I also highly recommend going to the classes specifically targeted to common areas of difficulty. I took my dog to the 2 session recall class and found it has really helped me get the control off the lead I was lacking.
